  • Iran used around 600 million cubic meters, around 100 million cubic meters in power generator stations, or its equivalent in gas oil, said oil minister Javad Owji.
  • The country has not faced the need to cut the gas in any area despite decreased pressure problem, he said.

The Oil Minister of Iran Javad Owji has said that his country has not faced the need to cut the gas in any area despite decreased pressure problem, and thanked his colleagues and people for it, Iranian media reports said.

The petroleum minister was referring to the gas consumption in the homes and noted that the temperature in most of the areas has decreased severely from zero degrees Celsius to -2 degrees Celsius.

Owji was speaking with the press after attending the Energy Commission of the Parliament on provision of fuel for the nation during the winter season.

“Thanks to the measures adopted to provide liquidated fuel for the power generation stations and the industries, those industries and power stations which used natural gas were decreased, and fortunately they kept on generating electricity using liquidated gas,” added Owji.

The minister requested the people to keep cooperating with the government by cutting down on consumption of gas like they had been doing until now, so that the country might not face challenges in providing gas for home usage and industries.

“In homes, commercial and transportation sectors altogether, Iran used around 600 million cubic meters, around 100 million cubic meters in power generator stations, or its equivalent in gas oil,” said the minister.

“We provided close to 25 million cubic meters in fuel oil usage which is less, but by providing fuel oil for the industries we did not let them shut down,” said Owji.

The petroleum minister said that the swap contract amongst Turkmenistan, Iran and Azerbaijan to finalize the gas deal was signed on the sidelines of a conference in Turkmenistan in the presence of Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi.

He said that the gas swap operation was scheduled to start at the beginning of the New Year, but it started on Monday, and Iran receives 4 to 4.5 million cubic meters of gas every day from northeast of the country.

Owji added that the swap operation in northwest Iran too is operational with Azerbaijan Republic, which stabilizes the gas usage in northeastern parts, and stabilizes the National Gas Network as well, local media reported.
