  • More than 5,100 of these employees have been infected by Covid-19,and five of them have died

Aster DM Healthcare announced on Wednesday, June 2, a new policy as part of which it will provide financial support for the next 10 years to the kin of those employees who lose their lives to Covid-19.

The Indian-origin company functions in that country as well as the GCC, with 21,000 employees— including 2,887 doctors and 6,283 — in hundreds of hospitals, clinics, and pharmacies, it said a statement.

It added that more than 5,100 of these employees have been infected by Covid-19 since the start of the pandemic, and all but five of them have recovered and resumed work. Aster’s move is expected to help the families of at least these five people.

The company said it has till date served 28,000 patients who tested positive for Covid-19 and screened over 1.66 million people across seven countries.

The statement quoted Aster’s Founder Chairman and Managing Director Dr Azad Moopen as saying about the deceased employees, “They have unfortunately left behind young families with wives, children, and ageing parents. While praying for their departed souls, we thought that we should provide the families some support as many of those who died were the sole breadwinners for their families.”

The dependents of the deceased employees will continue to receive their monthly basic salary for the next 10 years. This will be applicable to all Aster DM Healthcare employees in India and GCC.

“We truly hope that this provides them with some support and solace in these difficult times,” said Moopen.
