Africa Oil Week temporarily moved to Dubai for 2021 edition

    • This is the 27th edition of the AOW, an annual four-day meeting for stakeholders in the energy and power sector of the continent

    • It was not held last year due to the Covid-19 pandemic, which seems to have caused the shift in venue this year

The Hyve Group has announced it will shift the 2021 edition of the Africa Oil Week, which it organizes, to Dubai from the usual venue of Cape Town in South Africa.

This is the 27th edition of the AOW, an annual four-day meeting for stakeholders in the energy and power sector of the continent.

It was not held last year due to the Covid-19 pandemic, which seems to have caused the shift in venue this year.

The organizers said in the AOW official website: “After careful evaluation of government guidelines and consultation with our customers, Africa Oil Week 2021 will be moving to Dubai (United Arab Emirates).”

Explaining the move, the organizers said: “Ensuring the safety and well-being of our attendees has always been our top priority.”

The fact that the UAE is quite ahead in its vaccination drive also influenced the decision to hold the event in Dubai from November 8.

The organizers also said: “International large-scale events have already commenced and have attracted business travelers from countries across the world with the Dubai Expo due to welcome travelers from 200 counties in October 2021.”

They explained: “We believe moving to Dubai will enable us to deliver a premium event experience that our audience is accustomed to.”

They also said they announced the move at this juncture so that they could give their customers ample time to make travel arrangements.

There seems to be another reason why they chose Dubai. Apparently, they surveyed their customers, 88% of whom said they preferred the destination over other locations.

AOW has also clarified that it does not have any partnership or connection to Africa Energy Week, nor the organizer Africa Energy Chamber.
