Siemens and TCS join forces for industrial IoT on MindSphere

With new partners, Siemens is driving forward the expansion of its cloud-based open IoT system MindSphere

Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), a leading global IT services, consulting and business solutions organization, and Siemens have unveiled a new collaboration around Internet of Things (IoT) innovation. Focused on customers in the manufacturing, energy, building technology, healthcare and railway industries, the partnership will enable customers to benefit from new data insights and services based on MindSphere, the cloud-based, open IoT operating system from Siemens.

Customers will benefit from new applications for MindSphere by TCS, enabling new digital and analytical services such as predictive maintenance and energy monitoring. Siemens and TCS solutions will enable customers to explore new models that capitalize on IoT innovation and realize the opportunities presented by the digital economy.

Major strides toward IoT innovation

Milind Lakkad, Executive Vice President and Global Head of Manufacturing at TCS, said: “We’ve been collaborating with Siemens on technology innovation for several years and this latest development will enable our customers to make major strides in IoT innovation. With the MindSphere agreement we will intensify our partnership and support our customers as they realize the opportunities presented by digital innovation.”

“Our clients will not only benefit from expertise in application development and systems integration but also from first hand experience of the platform development,” added Lakkad.

The digitalization of industry – in which digital technologies are radically reshaping entire industries – is set to create significant opportunities for businesses of all shapes and sizes around the world. Initially the program will be focused in the manufacturing sector, where IoT has already gained significant traction due to the immense data volumes generated in the production process, enabling major innovations in system performance and connectivity.

Collaborating on cloud gateway

Through this partnership, TCS will also support developments around MindConnect Nano, the cloud gateway that can be used to connect production to cloud-based analysis of machine and production data. In addition, this new partnership will see Siemens and TCS work to explore implementing the MindSphere core platform, including operation and support services such as application and infrastructure management as well as analytical and testing services.

Steve Bashada, Executive Vice President and General Manager of MindSphere at Siemens, said: “The software engineering competence and implementation capabilities of TCS make them a valuable partner for Siemens and our customers. Siemens, together with TCS, will help customers evaluate and utilize data to achieve new insights which could ultimately pave the way for completely new business models, such as selling operating hours or services instead of machinery.”

Drawing on TCS’ experience, the company will offer MindSphere applications as well as digital and analytical services that can reduce downtime, maintenance related costs and energy consumption, while increasing the lifetime of their machinery.

This new collaboration will see TCS apply its breadth and depth of expertise across technology areas such as automation, IoT and connectivity with a focus on execution for brown field implementations in varied environments. Customers will benefit from extensive experience in industry processes across the value chain, including product design and engineering, production execution and services. These new solutions will bring to bear the full potential of Siemens’ IoT operating system.
