Qatar’s economically active population up by 3% in Q4 2022

Doha, Qatar — The number of economically active population in Qatar has risen by 3 percent in the last quarter of 2022, the emirate’s Planning and Statistics Authority said.

The Labor Force Sample Survey in the October-December 2022 period revealed that economically active population reached 87.7 percent of the total population (15 years and above).

The number of economically active males hit 95.4 percent and females 63.4 percent with the 25-34 year age group representing the highest rate of economic participation at 95.7 percent.

The survey showed that the majority (99.7 percent) of workers in the Qatari market are wage workers, indicating an increase in the number of wage workers in the Qatari market by 2.8 percent in Q4 of 2022 compared to the previous quarter, QNA reported.

The percentage of male wage workers reached 82.6 percent, while percentage female wage workers reached 17.4 percent. The average monthly wage for the total wage workers was QR 11,724 ($3,220) – QR 11,486 for males, and QR 12,390 for females.
According to data, the percentage of unemployed people increased by 1.3 percent to reached 0.1 percent– 51 percent of the jobseekers being males and the rest females. This makes the emirate’s unemployment rate in the third and fourth quarter as 0.1 percent.

The unemployment rate for the males was 0.1 percent and females 0.4 percent for females. For Qataris, the unemployment rate was 0.5 percent – 0.3 percent for males and 0.9 percent for females. The highest unemployment rates were recorded in the age group (15-24) years, reaching 0.6 percent in Q4 of 2022.

The number of the economically inactive population recorded 12.3 percent of the total population (15 years and above) in Q4 of 2022 – 28.5 percent for males and 71.5 percent for females, rising by 0.5 percent compared to Q3 of 2022.

Economically inactive non-Qatari population increased by 0.5 percent, while the number of economically inactive Qatari population increased by 0.4 percent in Q4 compared to the third quarter of 2022.

The total population increased by 3.5 percent to reach 2,934,840 people in Q4 of 2022, compared to Q3 of the same year. The number of females increased by 4.9 percent, while the number of males increased by 2.9 percent.
