US sanctions Hezbollah’s accountants, weapons facilitator

  • The US Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) sanctioned two individuals and two companies for providing financial services to Hezbollah
  • It took action against another individual involved in facilitating weapons procurement for the group

Washington, USA – The United States on Thursday imposed sanctions on people and organisations for allegedly aiding Hezbollah in obtaining weapons and providing financial services to it, the US Treasury Department said.  

The Treasury Department’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) sanctioned two individuals and two companies based in Lebanon for providing financial services to Hezbollah. Besides, it took action against anotherl individual involved in facilitating weapons procurement for the group. .

Hezbollah, a heavily armed militia has fought several wars with Israel. It is currently active in Syria support of President Bashar al-Assad against the ongoing rebellion in the country..

The sanctioned  individuals have been identified as Adel Mohamad Mansour, who led a Hezbollah-run quasi-financial institution; Hassan Khalil, who worked to procure weapons on behalf of Hezbollah; and Naser Hassan Neser, who worked with an entity that provided financial services to the group. 

The two companies are named Al-Khobara and Auditors.

Last month, the US sanctioned an international oil smuggling network it said supports Hezbollah and Iran’s Quds Force.
