Doha, Qatar–Qatar participated in the 58th regional meeting of director general of customs of the North of Africa, near and Middle East region, and the 141st/142nd Sessions of the WCO Council, held at WCO headquarters in Brussels.

Qatar was represented by chairman of the General Authority of Customs (GAC) Ahmed bin Abdullah Al Jamal.

The 58th regional meeting of director general of customs of the north of Africa, near and Middle East region discussed a number of topics, namely: the work of the policy commission, committee membership, and the adoption of the terms of reference document for the appointment of the technical attache, in addition to electing of a new secretary-general and a new chairperson.

During its 141st/142nd Sessions, the WCO Council focused its deliberations on various areas of customs work, including capacity building, rules of origin, valuation, nomenclature and classification, compliance, and trade facilitation, as well as on budgetary and financial matters.

The WCO Council took note of the progress made in implementing the strategic plan 2022-2025 and endorsed the Implementation Plan 2023-2024.

The meeting also discussed key focus areas of technology and innovation, green customs, and governance and accountability.

These meetings came within the framework of advancing the work of customs authorities, offering recommendations aimed at enhancing interstate cooperation and coordination in line with WCO standards.
