Riyadh, Saudi Arabia–Saudi Arabia will host the MENA Climate Week 2023 in Riyadh on October 8-12, in coordination with the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCC).
The MENA week’s activities and events will be “Global Stocktake” to assess the progress made towards realizing the climate changes objectives outlined in the Paris Agreement, said the Ministry of Energy.
The MENA Climate Week 2023 will be held ahead of the 28th Conference of the Parties (COP28) which will be hosted in the United Arab Emirates by the end of this year.
“The event will provide an opportunity to highlight the region’s efforts and approach to climate action and shedding light on the impacts of climate change at the local and regional levels”, said the ministry in a statement reported by SPA.
Last year in September, Earth foresight, a scientific program to combat climate change using artificial intelligence was launched at the Global AI Summit which was organized at the King Abdulaziz International Conference Center, in Riyadh.
The Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture (MEWA), the Saudi Data and Artificial Intelligence Authority (SDAIA), the Google Cloud Platform for Cloud Computing, and the Climate Engine Foundation for climate research announced the program at the summit.
The program relies on ground data processing techniques and artificial intelligence to provide sustainability solutions to address the risks of climate change and enhance environmental protection in Saudi Arabia and the region.
It focuses on five aspects to secure a more sustainable environment, including environmental preservation, pollution control, sustainable agriculture, climate and nature protection, and water and food security.
