Riyadh, Saudi Arabia – The average cinema ticket prices decreased by over 16% in 2023 compared to the previous year, revealed a panel discussion of the prominent leaders in the Saudi cinema industry.

The panel, consisting of cinema industry leaders, film specialists, and enthusiasts, underlined the remarkable performance of the Saudi box office and the increasing impact of Saudi films on both local and global platforms. They also discussed importance of the distribution and exhibition sector.

The emphasis stems from the Film Commission’s strategy to stimulate demand for Saudi films in selected local and global markets. Goals include creating awareness of Saudi film content, supporting local distribution platforms, improving the investment and regulatory environment, and fostering cultural appreciation for films, particularly Saudi productions.

Key topics discussed included the rapid growth of Saudi cinema since the reopening of cinemas five years ago. With 627 screens across 69 venues nationwide, Saudi Arabia’s cinema sector is expanding at one of the fastest rates globally. In 2022 and 2023, box office sales exceeded SR900 million annually, with over 17 million cinema tickets sold in 2023 alone.

The conversation delved into successful Saudi films at the box office, including titles like “Sattar,” “The Book of Sun,” and “Night Courier.” Filmmakers shared insights into their successful journeys in the Saudi box office and the nuances of showcasing films on both big screens and digital platforms.
