UAE residents anticipate full electric and hybrid vehicle takeover in coming years: survey

A significant shift is underway in UAE residents' perspectives towards electric vehicle (EV) adoption.

Dubai, UAE – About 63% of respondents in the UAE plan to make EVs their primary mode of transport by 2025, reveals a survey by Al-Futtaim Automotive, a major division of the Al-Futtaim Group and Strategic E-Mobility Partner,

The survey indicating a significant shift in UAE residents’ perspectives towards electric vehicle (EV) adoption in the wake of COP28, also found that 73% respondents are confident that the UAE will have charging stations every few kilometers by 2028. Similarly, 28% believe that by 2030, nearly 50% of the UAE’s population will be driving EVs or hybrid cars.

The survey highlights a substantial wave of interest in EVs, with 26% of non-EV owners expressing interest in purchasing one in the next 12 months. Additionally, 63% plan to make EVs their primary mode of transport within the next 6 months to 2 years, signaling a rapid shift towards sustainable mobility.

Despite the enthusiasm, the survey also highlighted barriers to EV adoption, including safety concerns (49%), servicing costs (44%), lack of charging infrastructure (41%), battery longevity (41%), and resale value (32%). A notable 68% believe that EVs are more expensive than regular fuel cars.

Al-Futtaim Automotive acknowledges these challenges and emphasizes its commitment to developing the electric mobility ecosystem. The company aims to address concerns through a comprehensive approach, including a diverse EV portfolio, its own charging station (Charge2Moov), and e-mobility training for aftersales.

Katib Belkhodja, Customer Centricity Director at Al-Futtaim Automotive, expressed confidence in overcoming barriers and accelerating the green transition. The company’s objective is to democratize the EV landscape by offering a wide range of electric mobility products with diverse price and performance capabilities.

Factors influencing the shift to EVs, according to the survey, include faster charging time (54%), more charging stations (54%), advancements in battery technology (54%), and a longer driving range (52%).
