UAE insurance assets rise 6.1 percent to $44.9 billion in 2025

  • UAE insurers’ profits jumped to AED4 billion, while invested assets accounted for 58.4 percent of total sector assets.
  • Active policies reached 17.3 million, with health coverage rising sharply after mandatory basic insurance requirements took effect nationwide.

Assets held by UAE insurance companies rose 6.1 percent to AED164.9 billion ($44.9 billion) in 2025, the Central Bank of the UAE said, as the sector recorded growth across premiums, claims, provisions and profits.

Gross written premiums increased 14.9 percent to AED74.8 billion from AED65.1 billion a year earlier, while paid claims rose 11 percent to AED46.2 billion.

Technical provisions increased 4.4 percent to AED96.3 billion, according to the central bank’s annual statistical report on insurance activity.

Invested assets reached AED96.4 billion, accounting for 58.4 percent of total sector assets and highlighting the insurance industry’s role in supporting investment activity and the wider economy.

Total profits of insurance companies increased to AED4 billion in 2025 from AED2.6 billion in 2024. The premium retention ratio also rose to 56 percent from 54.9 percent.

The number of active insurance policies reached 17.3 million, with health insurance policies increasing 26.1 percent following implementation of the mandatory basic health insurance scheme.

The UAE had 58 insurance companies operating in 2025, while insurance-related professions numbered 515.

Available capital stood at 455 percent of the minimum required level, indicating a strong capital position across the sector.

Insurance density reached about AED6,500 per capita, reflecting the expanding reach of insurance products in the UAE.

The central bank said the 2025 figures highlighted the sector’s contribution to financial stability, investment, risk management and broader economic activity.
