Dubai, UAE — EDGE Group and the Brazilian Army will establish a Cyber Defence Centre of Excellence in Brazil, the first of its kind in Latin America to operate under a government, industry and academia model.
The UAE-based advanced technology and defence group and the Brazilian Army’s Cyber Defence Command will jointly establish the centre to strengthen Brazil’s sovereign cybersecurity capabilities and support wider regional expertise, the companies said on Wednesday.
Both institutions will make direct investments in the centre, which is intended to operate as a permanent organisation with international benchmarks and long-term institutional independence.
EDGE Managing Director and CEO Hamad Al Marar said the partnership would combine technology, operational expertise and shared knowledge to build lasting cyber capabilities.
The centre will provide specialised services to Brazil’s armed forces and federal institutions, including professional training, development and certification, cyber incident response and digital forensics.
It will also provide strategic cybersecurity advice and conduct research and development into cyber defence doctrine and capabilities.
The centre will plan and deliver national and regional cyber exercises while developing advanced cyber defence capabilities and solutions.
EDGE said the centre would draw on international best practices, including those of the NATO Cooperative Cyber Defence Centre of Excellence.
It aims to position Brazil as a regional reference for sovereign cybersecurity and will seek affiliation, cooperation and recognition from international cybersecurity organisations.
The initiative is also intended to strengthen Brazil’s integration into the global cybersecurity community.
