The Ministry of Interior of Jordan has confirmed that strict measures will be taken against expatriates who did not receive the two doses of the Covid-19 vaccine.
In a statement on Saturday, the ministry said unvaccinated expatriates would be deported starting from the December 15.
“The decision comes with the aim of protecting public health,” official sources quoted the ministry as saying.
It also noted that prompting expatriates to get vaccinated would protect them against a future infection and transmitting the disease to others.
Expatriates in Jordan are allowed to obtain the vaccine for free, without requiring to present a residence permit or a work permit.
The move comes within a day of the country starting a lottery for newly-vaccinated people.
According to the rules of the lottery, which will start on November 5, six vaccinated people each week will be chosen as winners, with every individual receiving a sum of JD500 (around $705).
The winners would be chosen from among those who got vaccinated in the week leading up to each Friday.
Both first-time and second-time vaccine-takers are eligible for the lottery, but they will be enrolled in the draw only with their consent.
