Council of Arab Ministers declares Muscat Arab Digital Capital for 2022

Oman has a program to develop the talents of Arab youth in the field of digital skills.

Oman’s capital Muscat will be the Arab Digital Capital for 2022, the Council of Arab Ministers for Communications and Information has announced following a decision at the 25thsession of the Arab minister’s council.

The event was hosted via videoconferencing by the Arab League’s technical secretariat general of Arab Ministers of Communications and Information.

Omani media reports, quoting Said Hamoud Al Maawali, Minister of Transport, Communications and Information Technology, said the country’s candidacy was presented under the theme “Digital Future That Generates Opportunities”, which aligns with transformative Oman Vision 2040.

The minister said the candidacy file laid emphasis on three main axes–
cyber-security, digital innovation and digital capabilities development.

Al Maawali said that the decision reflects the confidence of Arab countries in the digital and legal capabilities of Oman.

He said the Ministry has a program to develop the talents of Arab youth in the field of digital skills, besides enriching the Arab digital content, fostering cooperation among member countries and encouraging investment in the digital economy.
