Qatar Tourism eases process to issue holiday home licenses

Qatar Tourism issues license for property owners to enlist their units for short-term rentals through popular international websites.
  • Qatar Tourism has introduced a helpline and a simplified process to get licenses issued within a week
  • Property owners renting to vacationers without licenses would be jailed for two years or/and fined QAR200,000

Qatar Tourism has announced a new process to help residential property owners to easily receive holiday homes licenses in the country, say local reports.

Holiday home licenses are expected to help the property owners to enlist their property for short-term rentals through international websites.

The government has received and continues to receive a number of queries on the process of licensing from citizens and investors through the website.

As a result, Qatar Tourism has introduced a helpline and a simplified process that will issue licenses within a week.

Officials from Qatar Tourism noted that property owners who avoid the process and provide their homes on rent to vacationers without a license would be jailed for two years and fined QAR200,000 (around $55,000).

Mohamed Al Ansari, Director of Licensing at Qatar Tourism, stated, “The spirit of hospitality is a distinct feature of Qatari tradition. As we prepare to host visitors from every corner of the world for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, it is our chance to showcase our true essence.”

He added: “Qatar Tourism invites all residential property owners to share our spirit of hospitality while generating extra income from their unused units by simply getting a Holiday Homes license. Steps and requirements needed for the license are available on our website.”
