Jordan ranks 57, improves position in Global Peace Index

  • Jordan moved up for the third year in a row on the Global Peace Index in 2022 to be ranked third in the Arab world
  • The Kingdom was ranked third among the countries in the MENA region, in 2021 it was fourth

Jordan moved up for the third year in a row on the Global Peace Index (GPI) in 2022 to be ranked third in the Arab world and 57 globally out of 163 countries in the report, moving six places over 2021.

Jordan ranked third amongst the countries in the MENA region, coming straight after Qatar and Kuwait and making a big leap since 2020 when it was fifth, then fourth in 2021.

Behind Jordan in the Middle East and North Africa come the UAE and Oman, respectively.

The GPI report is based on 23 criteria related to local peace and security and other external criteria, including relationship with neighboring countries.

Jordan strengthened its position on several security indicators, especially on the crime rates in society and the indicator of security and policemen, in which it received a very high score.

The report, published by the International Institute for Peace and Economics (IEP), noted that the global state of peace declined by three, in which countries are ranked from one to five. The most stable country would get one, and the least would get five.

The index is aimed at measuring peace and security in countries across the world.

It is developed by the IEP in cooperation with an international team of experts and research centers.
