Total broad money supply in Qatar reaches US$189bn in September 2022

DOHA, QATAR – The Planning and Statistics Authority (PSA) has released the 105th issue of (Qatar; Monthly Statistics) bulletin for the month of September, which showed total broad money supply (M2) increasing 11.4 percent YoY to US$189 billion (QR 688 billion).

One of the most prominent changes in this issue is the increase in the general index by a positive month-on-month change rate of 1.22 percent compared to August 2022.

It also increased at an annual rate of 6.1 percent (compared to September 2021). The largest increase was in entertainment and culture category with 6.03 percent, compared to the previous month.

The demographic statistics revealed that the population of Qatar increased from 2.64 million in September 2021 to 2.99 million in September 2022.

The statistics revealed that 2,252 live births have been registered during September 2022. Compared to last month it registered an increase in the total Qatari live births by 25.3 percent.

On the other hand, 230 deaths were recorded during the same period, an increase of 0.4 percent compared to August 2022.

September 2022 witnessed a monthly increase of 16.4 percent of total marriage contracts and a monthly decrease 5.8 percent of total divorce certificates compared to the previous month.

The total number of marriage contracts reached 369 marriage contracts, while the total number of divorce certificates reached 226 cases.

In the banking sector, the total broad money supply (M2) recorded about US$189 billion (688 Billion Qatari Riyals) during September 2022, an annual increase of 11.4 percent compared with September 2021.

On the other hand, cash equivalents, including commercial bank deposits reached US$265 billion (965 Billion Qatari Riyals) during September 2022.

The figure has recorded an annual decrease of 1.1 percent compared to September 2021, when deposits recorded approximately US$267 billion (975 Billion Qatari Riyals).

As for social security, US$21 million (78 Million Qatari Riyals) reached 14,452 beneficiaries in September 2022, recording a monthly decrease of 0.8 percent for the value of social security amount and a monthly decrease of 0.4 percent for the number of beneficiaries.

Total electricity consumption during September 2022 was 4,278.2 GWh attaining a monthly decrease of 29 percent and an annual decrease of 16 percent.

While the total water consumption reached 32,768.2 thousand m3 during the same month attaining a monthly decrease of 44.7 percent and an annual decrease of 43 percent compared to September 2021.

The total number of building permits issued reached 884 during September 2022, recording a monthly increase of 12.8 percent and an annual increase of 20.1 percent.

The total number of registered new vehicles during September 2022 reached 8,367 new vehicles.

The figure showed a monthly decrease of 5.3 percent while it revealed an annual increase of 13.3 percent.

A total of 803 traffic accident cases were recorded during September 2022 excluding the accidents without injuries, showing a monthly increase of 17.2 percent and an annual increase by 31.6 percent.

Light injuries accounted for most traffic accidents cases during the same month, with 92 percent, followed by severe injuries by 6 percent. However, 16 deaths were recorded, equivalent to only 2 percent of total traffic accident cases.

The total number of inbound visitors reached about 151 thousand, recording a monthly increase of 2 percent (compared to August 2022) and an annual increase of 126 percent (compared to September 2021).

The highest number of visitors, from the GCC countries, was at 45 percent.

Visitors via air travel make up the highest percentage with 61 percent of the total number of visitors.
