The Arab League ministerial session for the Economic and Social Council of the Arab League, in Cairo discussed the Greater Arab Free Trade Area (GAFTA), the establishment of the Arab Customs Union, ways of promoting cooperation in the digital economy and ensuring Arab economic growth after the COVID-19 pandemic.
The meeting is a preparatory session preceding the regular 31st session of the Arab League Summit, which will be hosted by Algeria in November.
During the session, Assistant Under-Secretary at the UAE Ministry of Economy for Foreign Trade Affairs, Al Kait pointed out that the UAE is keen to share its pioneering experience in establishing the foundations of advanced and sustainable action mechanisms to enhance the economic cooperation and integration of Arab countries.
The UAE also launched a range of pioneering programmes to train qualified Arab cadres to lead the space sector and support Arab cooperation in space sciences.
The UAE then presented its innovative project, titled, the “Regulations Lab” (RegLab), to present a creative approach to making a change, by drafting regulations on emerging technologies and implementing them with the cooperation of executive authorities, the private sector, innovators and entrepreneurs involved in drafting regulations that enable the country to keep pace with recent innovations.
