Riyadh, Saudi Arabia — Diriyah Company has collaborated with Pantone to produce “Diriyah Tan,” a color that embodies the essence and deep-rooted spirit of the history of Diriyah, the City of Earth.

The unique color was inspired by Diriyah’s land, reflecting this destination’s significance as a leading cultural and tourism hub, with a target of attracting 50 million annual visitors by 2030, SPA reported.

The new color reflects the historical and cultural status of the special landmark, enhancing its presence on the world stage. It features a unique golden hue derived from a blend of authentic mud brick materials sourced from fifteen different sites across the Kingdom, capturing the authenticity of Najdi architecture and the rich heritage of Saudi Arabia.

The color combines meticulous design to preserve the Kingdom’s rich history and its social and cultural legacy, while embodying an ambitious vision for the future. Diriyah Tan presents Diriyah as a global destination that brings together cultures, serves as a beacon of knowledge, and inspires the younger generation to become future leaders.

Diriyah Company Group chief executive Jerry Inzerillo noted that the unique color celebrates the culture and traditions of the Saudi people and the rich heritage of Diriyah, which is a leading example of design with its distinctive Najdi architectural style, forming part of Diriyah’s unique visual identity.

Pantone Color Institute vice president Laurie Pressman emphasized the power of color and design in shaping experiences, stating that “by selecting ‘Diriyah Tan,’ a rich shade inspired by mud bricks with a warm golden tone, we honor Saudi Arabia’s history while conveying a vision for the future”.

“This color reflects the texture and essence of the natural building materials that define Diriyah, highlighting At-Turaif, a UNESCO World Heritage site, as a global gathering place. It stands as a beacon of education and knowledge, fostering inspiration and empowering youth to become the leaders of tomorrow,” Pressman added.

The Pantone team of color experts drew inspiration for the color from the effect of golden sunlight penetrating the clear blue sky onto the iconic mud walls of the historic At-Turaif palaces.

The new Diriyah Tan serves as a unique symbol that reflects the lifestyle within the Diriyah project. It is part of the visual identity that inspires visitors, creating an emotional connection to the place while enhancing the preservation of Diriyah’s historical and cultural significance on the global stage.

Historic At-Turaif, which serves as the foundation for Diriyah Tan, was built in the 18th century using mud brick and natural materials from the Diriyah environment. The landmark is a prominent symbol of the Kingdom’s rich history and was inscribed on the UNESCO’s World Heritage List in 2010. It features several palaces and museums that showcase the history and legacy of the Saudi state, taking visitors on a comprehensive journey that highlights the heritage of Diriyah.
