Riyadh, Saudi Arabia–The 10th Scientific Forum of translation themed “Time Differences between Composition and Translation in the Arab World” will begin tomorrow at Cairo University.
The forum is being held on the occasion of the awarding ceremony of the King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz International Prize for Translation.
It aims to focus on the state of translation in the Arab world, highlighting and advancing the effective means in supporting translation projects and shedding light on the expected role of publishing houses in supporting the translation movement.
The forum includes two sessions. The first is chaired by the Secretary-General of the Supreme Council of Culture, Dr. Hisham Azmy, in which the Director of the National Center for Translation in Egypt, Dr. Karma Sami, will participate, with a working paper “The Reality of Translation in the Arab World: Towards Foreseeing Solutions”.
The Director General of the Arab Organization for Translation, Dr. Haitham Al-Nahi, will participate in the paper “Towards the Establishment of Scientific Standards for Translation”.
Director of the Department of Publishing and Translation, Muhammad Al-Fraih, with a working paper “The Impact of the Delayed Role of Translation: Challenges and Solutions”.
The director of publishing and translation at Al-Arabi Publishing, Sherif Ismail Bakr, will attend with a paper “The Responsibilities of Publishing Houses in Supporting the Translation Movement”.
While the second session will be chaired by a member of the Scientific Committee of the King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz International Prize for Translation, Dr. Ibrahim bin Youssef Al-Balawi.
Dr. Hamza Qabalan Al-Muzaini will speak on the theme: “My Experience in Translation.”
Samir Mina Jeries will also discuss his experience under the title: “My Experience in Literary translation”, while Dr. Murtaza Seyed Umarov will talk about “Arabic literature in Uzbekistan.”
