In a meeting with King Abdullah of Jordan, Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund reiterated her belief that continued donor support was critical to Jordan’s reform efforts as well as to shoulder the disproportionate burden in hosting 1.3 million Syrian refugees.
Ms. Kristalina Georgieva had called on the King in Washington, who is on a visit to the US where he met with the US President Joe Biden.
In a statement issued by Ms. Georgieva, she praised the kingdom for aspiring to job-rich inclusive growth. “I greatly appreciated the opportunity to meet today in Washington with King Abdullah II of Jordan. We discussed global and regional developments and the efforts of the Kingdom to achieve job-rich inclusive growth, preserve macroeconomic stability, and protect the poor, especially during the COVID-19 crisis
The statement went on to say, “I also congratulated Jordan for its successful and inclusive national vaccination program that also covers refugees. Continued donor support remains crucial to help Jordan’s reform efforts as well as to shoulder the disproportionate burden in hosting 1.3 million Syrian refugees.”
