The freelance license lets Abu Dhabi citizens, residents, and non-residents conduct commercial activities from anywhere in the world.
  • To obtain the license, the applicant must have a minimum of three years of experience in the specific field or industry
  • Alternatively, they are expected to have earned an academic or professional achievement in that field

The Abu Dhabi Department of Economic Development or ADDED has expanded the scope of its Freelance Professional License, local reports have said.

The license, which allows citizens, residents, and non-residents to conduct commercial activities from anywhere in the world, has seen the addition of 11 new such activities to it, said the local reports.

These newly-added activities are reportedly subject to the general regulations of the sole proprietor company.

The new activities are related to accounting and auditing, analyzing and reviewing accounting and auditing systems, Sharia review consultancy for the transactions of Islamic financial institutions, consultations in the fields of tax, electronic networks, electronic security, innovation and artificial intelligence, information technology network services, design and programming of electronic chips, as well as the design of database systems and electronic risk management services.

To obtain the license, the applicant must have a minimum of three years of experience in the specific field or industry, said the reports.

Alternatively, they are expected to have earned an academic or professional achievement in that field.

The license apparently allows the holder to have a valid residence visa for himself and his family.

Those willing to apply for the Freelance Professional License have been asked by the department to review the details of its commercial activities and requirements by logging in to the Abu Dhabi Business Centre official website.

The local reports quoted ADDED Undersecretary Rashed Abdulkarim Al Blooshi as saying that this license would enhance the business environment in Abu Dhabi by creating more technical job opportunities, as the emirate aims to attract and retain top-notch individuals and professionals.

He also indicated that the new commercial activities added to the license are part of the department’s keenness to enhance the services sector in the emirate of Abu Dhabi.

Al Blooshi added that since the announcement of the Freelance Professional License, ADDED has issued 1,784 of them.
