Dhahran, Saudi Arabia — Saudi Aramco and the Beekeepers Cooperative Society in Rijal Almaa Governorate in Asir Region have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to support beekeeping and beekeeping products in the region.
Through this initiative, the Beekeepers Association aims to produce approximately 10,000 queen bees and 4,000 breeding parcels for local bees without the use of external bees.
The MoU examines opportunities to support 600 low-income beekeepers in the region by providing specialized training, in addition to providing beehives and honey production requirements to enable them to obtain sustainable employment opportunities in the field of beekeeping and beekeeping products, such as honey, wax and pollen.
The MoU also includes plans to improve the quality of beekeepers’ products by introducing advanced equipment and quality testing training according to the highest standards.
The MoU was signed by Saudi Aramco Vice President of Public Affairs Khalid Al-Zamil and Chairman Ali Al-Hayani on behalf of the Rijal Almaa Beekeepers Cooperative Society.
The signing of the MoU comes as part of Saudi Aramco’s efforts to promote social responsibility projects and programs through citizenship initiatives that include a number of community sectors that aim to empower various segments of society in line with the objectives of the ambitious national vision that has made Saudi youth a key focus for development, Aramco said.
