Bahraini Farmers Market returns with Covid-19 precautions

The Bahraini Farmers Market is returning after a gap year, with Covid-19 precautions.
  • This edition of the market will be limited to shops selling local agricultural produce
  • It will also feature a number of restaurants without the accompanying recreational activities

The Bahraini Farmers Market will return in its ninth edition in the Budaiya Botanical Garden in December, according to official sources.

This edition of the market would be limited to shops selling local agricultural produce, and to a number of restaurants without the accompanying recreational activities, said the sources.

The market, which reportedly aims to promote Bahrain’s agricultural products and highlight the development taking place in the country’s agricultural sector, is returning after a one-year hiatus caused by the Covid-19 pandemic

According to the official sources, the annual event also aims to contribute to improving the Bahraini farmers’ income through a marketing system.

It is organized by the Agriculture and Marine Resources or AMR at the Ministry of Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning, in partnership with the National Initiative for Agricultural Development or NIAD.

AMR has reportedly called on all companies and individuals — farmers and exhibitors — wishing to participate to submit their applications for registration.

The ministry’s Agriculture and Marine Resources Undersecretary Nabeel Abulfateh was quoted by the official sources as saying that the Bahraini Farmers Market has become a catalyst for fair competition between Bahraini farmers keen to display various agricultural produce.

The turnouts have prompted farmers to take advantage of modern technologies in agriculture, which is consistent with the AMR strategy to maximize the contribution of the agricultural sector to achieving sustainable food security in Bahrain, he added.

The circumstances related to the Covid-19 pandemic across the world have resulted in great precautionary measures being imposed in the market to ensure the safety of all people, said the undersecretary.
