Dubai tourism achieves robust growth in 2022

  • The increased flow of tourists helped improve hotel occupancy across the emirate, which reached 76 per cent during the period, the highest globally in Q1.
  • Successful handling of the pandemic, a safe environment for travelers and world-class infrastructure have contributed towards the rising tourist inflow.

Dubai’s tourism sector recovered fast after the easing of Covid-19 restrictions, registering a 203 percent increase in the number of visitors in the first four months of 2022.

The increased flow of tourists helped improve hotel occupancy across the emirate, which reached 76 per cent during the period, the highest globally in Q1.

Successful handling of the pandemic, a safe environment for travelers—Dubai was rated the third safest city to travel for solo female travelers—world-class infrastructure have contributed towards the rising tourist inflow.

Helal Saeed Almarri, director general, Dubai’s Department of Economy and Tourism (DET) recently said the department was building on the massive momentum generated by Expo 2020 to drive growth across various tourism sectors.

Media reports said the department is also looking to promote the destination beyond its current popularity as a family and shopping getaway in the Indian market, focusing on luxury, golf, adventure, culture and wedding.
