Govt says 200 Qatari nationals got jobs in private firms in May

The Ministry of Labor said that 200 Qatari citizens, both men and women, have got jobs in the private sector in May.

The ministry said the finance and insurance sectors accounted for 73 jobs, energy and industry 64 jobs, communications and information technology sector 12 jobs, services and transportation 41 jobs, real estate and contracting four jobs, and other private institutions six jobs.

The ministry said 10 companies and institutions had cooperated with them to employ Qatari nationals in May.

They were Qatar National Bank which offered 52 jobs, Commercial Bank of Qatar five jobs, Ahlibank two jobs, Dlala Holding Company four jobs, Qatar Airways Group 37 jobs, Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development three jobs, Woqod eight jobs, Qatar Steel five jobs, Ooredoo eight jobs, and beIN Sports Group three jobs.

The ministry’s efforts since the beginning of the year have significantly contributed to the employment of 729 male and female nationals in private sector companies and institutions. The month wise breakup is 103 citizens in January, 114 in February, 120 in March, 192 in April, and 200 in May.

The statistical bulletin of the ministry for May includes prominent figures of the labor sector in the country and the results of the inspection visits to various establishments.

The bulletin showed that the ministry received 6,091 applications for new recruitment, 3,640 applications were approved, and 2,451 applications were rejected, while the total number of applications for profession change was 2,896, of which 2,863 were approved and only 33 applications were rejected.

According to the bulletin issued Saturday, 1,548 applications for work permits were submitted to the ministry which included 845 applications to renew the permit, 515 applications to issue a new permit, and 186 applications to cancel issued permits. The ministry received two applications to issue a replacement.

The bulletin revealed that the ministry carried out about 33 inspection tours to recruitment offices which resulted in banning three offices and issuing one warning.

In May, the Labor Inspection Department conducted inspection campaigns to monitor adherence to the laws and ministerial decisions regulating the labor market in Qatar.

A total of 4,262 inspection visits were made to the regions which resulted in the uncovering of 559 infractions. A recommendation to ban 39 establishments was made and 525 alerts were issued to the companies to remove such infractions.

The statistical bulletin revealed that the Department of Labor Relations received, through the unified platform, 2,068 complaints from workers against their companies, 318 of which were settled, and 20 complaints were filed, leaving 1,730 complaints under process.

The bulletin indicated that the number of cases filed to the labor dispute settlement committees during the past month was 1,696 and decisions in 334 cases were issued by them, and 466 cases are under process.

The date for looking into the remaining cases will be set later.
