Huawei to invest $430m in Northern Africa over 5 years

Huawei has moved to diversify revenue streams after US-led sanctions took a major chunk out of its telecom equipment and smartphone businesses.

Shanghai, China – Huawei has unveiled an ambitious five-year initiative that will see a total investment of $430 million dedicated to driving technological advancement and digital transformation in the 28 countries located north of the equator within the African continent.

The investment plan is structured as follows: $200 million will be allocated to establish the region’s first public cloud center, which will offer more than 200 cloud services. An additional $200 million will be used to support 200 local software partners and empower 1,300 channel partners. In terms of talent development, Huawei will invest $30 million to provide training for 10,000 local developers and educate 100,000 digital professionals. 

The plan aims to create a highly skilled workforce capable of spearheading the intelligent transformation of the region.

Terry HE, President of Huawei Northern Africa (North, West and Central Africa), stressed the significance of this endeavor, stating, “Every technological evolution is characterized by perseverance, exploration, and investment.” 

He stressed Huawei’s commitment to intensify investments in technologies, ecosystems, and talent to accelerate intelligent transformation in Northern Africa. 

Africa represents a critical element of Huawei, growth ambitions.
