New Delhi, India – Larsen & Toubro (L&T) secured a major Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contract for the Amaala project in Saudi Arabia’s Red Sea region. The project, covering 4,155 sq km within the Prince Mohammed bin Salman Natural Reserve, is a high-end tourism destination.

The contract, awarded by the consortium of Masdar and EDF, involves the establishment of renewable energy generation, power utilities, and water systems. L&T, as the turnkey contractor, inked the EPC agreement with Amaala’s developers, Masdar, and EDF, reports in Indian media said.

The project’s scope aims to surpass sustainability benchmarks. It encompasses an optimized off-grid renewable energy system, featuring a 250MWp Solar PV plant and a 700MWh Battery Energy Storage System. Additionally, it includes biofuel-based internal combustion engines, three Gas Insulated Substations, high voltage transmission lines, and medium voltage distribution networks for the power systems.

Moreover, the water systems component involves constructing a 37 MLD Seawater Reverse Osmosis Plant, 6 MLD Sewage Treatment Plants, marine works for intake and outfall, tank farms, a potable water network, wastewater network, and treated sewage effluent network. L&T’s involvement has already resulted in a 1.02% rise in their shares following the contract announcement.
