Joint Jordanian-Yemeni Business Council to resume activities, says JCC

  • The JCC said the Kingdom offers several opportunities in multiple commercial, service and industrial sectors for investors.

AMMAN, JORDAN – President of the Jordan Chamber of Commerce (JCC) Khalil Al-Haj Tawfiq on Saturday discussed with Director General of the Federation of Yemen Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FYCCI) Taha Ahmed Mahbashi, mechanisms for activating work of the Joint Business Council.

The Joint Business Council of the two countries was established in 2002.

According to a JCC statement, the two sides agreed on importance of re-launching the council’s activities after forming its 24 members on an equal basis from Jordan and Yemen.

During the meeting, which was held at the JCC headquarters, Haj Tawfiq lauded “distinguished” bilateral relations at various levels, which requires rebuilding a new form of joint trade and investment cooperation, and take advantage of the two countries’ available opportunities.

Haj Tawfiq said the council would have a “major and important” role in the next stage in terms of strengthening joint economic cooperation and restoring its past status by increasing level of trade and investment exchange.

He said that supporting Yemen and helping it to overcome its difficulties is considered an Arab national duty.

He stressed on JCC’s readiness to make any efforts that contribute to advance bilateral relations, given that Yemen is an important market and trade partner of Jordan.

Haj Tawfiq said the Jordanian side will soon name representatives in the council, which would be announced on the sidelines of the 20th Conference of Arab Businessmen and Investors, which the Chamber will host on October 18.

He stressed on the importance of attracting new Yemeni investments to Jordan and added the Kingdom offers several opportunities in multiple commercial, service and industrial sectors.

Haj Tawfiq said the JCC is ready to provide the Yemeni side all available opportunities and follow up on any issues facing investors and work to address them with the authorities.

He also highlighted the importance of arranging a virtual JCC-FYCCI meeting to prepare mechanisms to activate the council and arrange steps that pave the way for making progress in achieving its goals to serve mutual economic interests.
