Jordan tourism revenues pass $21 million in first 11 months of 2021

Jordan’s tourism income has increased from JD1.692 billion (US$21 million) to JD1 billion (US$13 million) in the first eleven months of 2021, according to data issued by the Central Bank of Jordan.

The total number of tourists coming to the Kingdom in the period has surpassed 2.1 million, while the number of overnight tourists has inched up by 8.9 percent, the figures revealed.

Jordanian Minister of Tourism and Antiquities Nayef Al-Fayez has affirmed that the 2021-2025 National Tourism Strategy is geared to attract more tourists than recorded in 2019, before the outbreak of the covid-19 pandemic.

Speaking to the Jordan News Agency (Petra) on Monday, Al-Fayez said the national tourism strategy centers around five main themes: tourism product development, human resources, marketing, and heritage management and protection.

He added that the strategy aims at doubling the number of tourists as well as revenue by 2025, noting that in 2019 about 5.3 million tourists visited the Kingdom while revenue from tourism in that same year amounted to JD4.1 billion.

Talking about the domestic tourism program “Urdunna Jannah” (Our Jordan is Paradise), Al-Fayez indicated that it aims is revitalizing domestic tourism, and encouraging citizens to visit dozens of tourist destinations, pointing out that more than 50 percent of the cost of the trips under this scheme are covered by the Ministry and the Jordan Tourism Board.Â
