Abu Dhabi, UAE – UAE’s clean energy powerhouse Masdar expands Central Asian presence with agreement to explore ground-mounted solar, onshore wind, floating solar and hydropower in land-locked and water-rich Tajikistan

MW Energy, a joint venture between Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company – Masdar and W Solar Investment, has signed an agreement with Tajikistan’s Ministry of Energy and Water Resources (MOEWR) to explore at least 500 megawatts (MW) capacity of clean energy projects, including floating solar power and hydropower, in the central Asian country.

The collaboration will focus on the development of solar photovoltaic (PV), wind, and hydropower projects through a Public-Private Partnership (PPP).

“The UAE is proud to be partnering with Tajikistan to explore cutting-edge renewable energy projects to help increase energy security and reduce carbon emissions,”  the UAE Minister of Energy and Infrastructure, Suhail Al Mazrouei stated. “As the UAE looks forward to hosting COP28, we will continue to work with nations to accelerate the path to a net-zero future.”

The Tajikistan Minister of Energy and Water Resources Daler Jum’a his country was committed to increasing its installed electricity generation capacity and growing its green energy sector.

“Our land is blessed with many natural resources, and we look forward to working with partners to harness this potential and meet our energy and development goals,” he added.

This expansion into Tajikistan aligns with Masdar’s ongoing endeavors in Central Asia, where it has undertaken renewable energy projects, including the region’s largest wind farm in Uzbekistan and several solar developments.
