Qatar affirms its commitment to WTO agreements

Qatar has affirmed its commitment to the principles and agreements of the World Trade Organization (WTO), and its support for the efforts of member states in order to preserve the organization’s vital role in consolidating the principles of international trade.

In a meeting with Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, the Director-General of the World Trade Organization , Sultan bin Rashid Al Khater, undersecretary of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry of Qatar, praised the role played by the organization in supporting the international trading system.

During the meeting in Geneva the two sides discussed ways to enhance bilateral cooperation and support the ongoing negotiations within the framework of the organization to meet the challenges witnessed by the multilateral trading system at the global level. The minister also met with the Director General of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) Daren Tang, and reviewed with him cooperation relations and ways to enhance partnerships with the organization.

The minister stressed, on this occasion, Qatar’s commitment to the principles and conventions of the World Intellectual Property Organization, noting that Qatar seeks to join a number of additional conventions of the Organization, and actively participates in many aspects related to the WIPO negotiations, and supports all efforts made to reach an international agreement on strengthening the protection of broadcasting organizations from piracy.
