The first edition of Qatar Geneva International Motor Show is planned for the autumn of 2022 or 2023, it said. The final dates are expected to be confirmed in the coming weeks.

The organizers intend the event to take place every two years. Its full concept reveal will only be made during GIMS 2022, which will take place from February 19 to February 22 next year.

Qatar Airways Group Chief Executive and Qatar Tourism Chairman Akbar Al Baker was quoted by the statement as saying about his country’s plan to promote itself as a global tourism destination: “In addition to extensive hotel and resort development, the refurbishment and creation of tourism assets and an expanding culinary scene, hosting internationally renowned events is an important pillar of our strategy.”

He added: “We’re pleased to partner with the highly distinguished Geneva International Motor Show and look forward to a collaborative relationship to bring this eminent event to our shores.”

Started in 1905 in the Swiss city of Geneva, GIMS is an annual auto show that has apparently showcased almost all models of internal combustion engines that revolutionized the personal-vehicle industry.
