Qatar’s Consumer Price Index increased by 5.93% in Dec 2022

  • Prices decreased in Communication by 3.37 percent, Health by 2.31 percent, Clothing and Footwear by 0.38 percent and Miscellaneous Goods and Services by 0.08 percent.

Doha, Qatar– Qatar’s Consumer Price Index (CPI) rose by 5.93 percent in December 2022 to reach 108.20 points, driven primarily by an increase in prices in the recreation and culture sectors.

On monthly basis, the CPI increased by 1.24 percent when compared to CPI of November 2022.

The CPI annual increase was due to the price rise in seven groups namely: Recreation and Culture by 25.36 percent, followed by Housing, Water, Electricity and other Fuel by 11.90 percent, Restaurants and Hotels by 10.08 percent, Food and Beverages by 1.62 percent. Education by 1.09 percent, Furniture and Household Equipment by 0.95 percent, and Transport by 0.27 percent, Qatar News Agency reported.

Prices decreased in Communication by 3.37 percent, Health by 2.31 percent, Clothing and Footwear by 0.38 percent and Miscellaneous Goods and Services by 0.08 percent. Tobacco prices remained unchanged.

When comparing the main components of CPI for December 2022 with the previous month November 2022 (Monthly change), it is found that, there was an increase in six groups, while two groups were decreased, and four groups remained unchanged.

The groups showed increase as a follow: Recreation and Culture by 7.33 percent, followed by Restaurants and Hotels by 1.84 percent, Transport by 1.22 percent, Miscellaneous Goods and Services by 0.51 percent, Food and Beverages by 0.43 percent, Furniture and Household Equipment by 0.10 percent. A decrease has been recorded in Communication by 2.03 percent, and Clothing and Footwear by 0.42 percent.

Tobacco, Housing, Water, Electricity and other Fuel, Health, and Education had remained flat at the last months price level.
