Three day Ajman Dates festival concludes, promotes palm plantation

The seventh edition of three-day Liwa Ajman Dates and Honey Festival at the Emirates Hospitality Center in Ajman, concluded on Monday.

Organized by the Ajman Department of Tourism Development, the event acted as a platform for promotion of palm plantation, and production of dates, honey and fruits.

People visited the festival in huge numbers, which included many events aimed at reviving the cultural Emirati heritage.

Distribution of prizes worth AED500,000 amongst the participants in the event’s competition was a highlight of the event.

This included dates decoration, honey, mango, citrus fruits, lemon, traditional food and photography competition.

A cooking competition for both public and hotel facilities in Ajman was also a part of the event.

Several farmers displayed their best dates, citruses, fruits, honey, while finest palm trees too were shown in the event.

Sheikh Abdulaziz bin Humaid Al Nuaimi, Chairman of the Ajman Department of Tourism Development, said the event “supported and developed the palm plantation and agriculture.”

This is in addition to “honey production”, a key sector in the country and a vital part of its “natural environment and food resources”, and a “source of income for a large segment of farmers and workers in this industry”, he added.

Al Nuaimi noted the event “is keen to support farm owners and improve their revenues, develop this sector and ensure its sustainability by organizing more events and activities”.

He said the event also “provide guidance to farmers to encourage them to adopt the latest innovations and best practices in this field.”
