The UAE’s aim to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050 has been praised by Stephane Dujarric, spokesperson for the Secretary-General of the United Nations.

In a statement today, Dujarric said: “We warmly welcome this very important announcement by the UAE.”

He urged other countries to emulate the Emirati example in the future, “specially ahead of the UN Climate Change Conference (COP26) in Glasgow

The United Arab Emirates will aim to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050, a plan commensurate with the country’s 2050 Strategic Initiative. It will make the UAE the first country in the whole of MENA region to take such action.

The initiative, announced at Expo 2020 Dubai, aims to underpin dynamic economic growth alongside positive environmental impact.

The country is leveraging its strong international relations to advance shared interests and drive sustainable development.
