Ummahat Island unveils world’s first net-zero 5G network towers

  • In addition to being 100% solar powered, these towers are designed in a way that allows air circulation to reduce cooling costs, and do not require high maintenance.
  • They are also aimed at preserving biodiversity and enabling tower sharing among all licensed telecom operators in KSA.

Tabuk, Saudi Arabia — Red Sea Global (RSG), Zain KSA, and the French Serge Ferrari Group have developed and installed advanced telecom towers on Ummahat Island, RSG said.

These towers will provide visitors with a “seamless communication experience that blends harmoniously with the island’s natural beauty”, the statement added.

According to the release, the project has five main objectives: providing an ideal 5G service, enhancing the island’s magnificent visual scene, reducing emissions through the use of 100 percent clean energy, preserving biodiversity, and enabling tower sharing among all licensed telecom operators in KSA.

RSG said the towers are powered by the world’s first net zero energy 5G network, recently launched by RSG and Zain KSA and the first of its kind in the world.

In addition to being 100% solar powered, these towers are designed in a way that allows air circulation to reduce cooling costs, and do not require high maintenance, the statement said.

Group head of Technology at RSG Dr. Ahmed Alsohaily said: “As we aspire to be leaders in sustainable development and environmental responsibility around the world, we are well aware that achieving this ambitious goal requires working with partners who share our vision, a common ethical and social commitment, as well as a desire for innovation and uniqueness.”
