What ails restaurant sector in Kuwait?

    *Shortage of qualified workers, delay in vaccination and timing restrictions are affecting the sector negatively

    KUWAIT CIT: A severe shortage of specialized and qualified workers, delay in vaccinating a large segment of the sector’s workforce, and continuation of the closure of commercial complexes at 8pm were the three key reasons affecting the restaurant sector in Kuwait, a report said.

    In an exclusive chat with the daily Al-Anba, Fahd Al-Arbash, head of Kuwaiti Union of Restaurants, Cafès and Catering (KURCC), said these concerns have been repeatedly communicated to the Council of Ministers, Ministry of Health and other authorities concerned.

    The authorities have been requested to ease restrictions imposed on the commercial sector, considering the losses it has incurred due to these restrictions, Al-Arbash said.

    The union has urged the health ministry to hasten the vaccination of workers in restaurants and cafès. Although the workers of large restaurants with more than 100 employees have already been vaccinated, small restaurants and cafès with a small number of workers are still suffering from delayed vaccination, which negatively affected their operations, he said.
