Work on the fourth phase of Bahrain’s Tubli Wastewater Plant Expansion project is progressing at full swing, authorities have said.
Being implemented by the consortium of WTE Wassertechnik, Azmeel Contracting and Construction Corporation and Tecton Engineering and Construction, the project is said to be worth BD78 million, or $206 million.
Once completed, the plant will have an average daily flow capacity of 400,000 cu m/day, up from the present 200,000 cu m/day capacity, reported Construction Week.
The construction of the plant is being jointly funded by Saudi Arabia and Kuwait, as part of the Gulf Development Programme, the report said.
This is among the Works Ministry’s major strategic sanitation projects aimed at enhancing the performance of the Tubli Wastewater Plant and increasing the production of treated water used in irrigation and agricultural beautification, remarked Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning Minister Esam bin Abdulla Khalaf during an inspection tour of the project.
The scope of work includes the setting up of a collection room for wastewater streams 21m underground and a pump 25.1m underground that will receive wastewater flows from the collection room.
As per the deal, the operation and maintenance of the old and new plant will be funded by the Government of Bahrain for 10 years.
A consortium of KEO International Consultants and p2m berlin are acting as the project and construction management consultants.
Al Khalaf said another project was being implemented in parallel with the Tubli Wastewater Plant Expansion.
Funded by the Saudi Fund for Development, the project includes the construction of several buildings for laboratories, a workshop, the plant’s administration and the Sanitation Affairs Directorate, he added.
