Marafiq to sell power from Oman plant

  • The plant will have a capacity of more than 80MW and be built in Duqm
  • It will aim to meet the energy requirements of Tanweer, which is part of the Nama Group

The Central Utilities Company or Marafiq, part of the Oman-origin OQ Group, has signed an agreement with the Rural Areas Electricity Company, or Tanweer, to sell it power, local reports have said.

Marafiq General Manager (Business Development) Hamad Ali al-Wahibi signed the Power Purchase Agreement with Tanweer’s Acting CEO Ahmed Said al-Harthy, said the reports.

Through the agreement, Marafiq will reportedly build and operate a power plant consisting of gas fuel turbines in Duqm.

The plant will have a capacity of more than 80MW, and aim to meet the energy requirements of Tanweer, which is part of the Nama Group.

The power production at the plant is expected to start in November this year.

Marafiq Executive Director Abdullah al-Hashimi was quoted on the occasion as saying: “This agreement will meet the requirements of the sector’s law and will create high value to meet the increasing demand in the zone. In addition, the plant will contribute to reducing emissions.”
