Meydan taps Empower for cooling

Emirates Central Cooling Systems Corporation or Empower has signed an agreement to provide district cooling services to Meydan master community, according to a statement.

The total capacity provided would be 382,000 refrigeration tons or RT, which will serve the needs of 750 existing and upcoming buildings in the city.

Empower is also expected to and acquire the existing district cooling plant for a value of AED100 million (around $27.23 million).

As per the terms of the agreement, Empower is now expected to provide the entire Meydan master community with its district cooling services to meet the needs of the existing and upcoming projects.

Currently, Meydan Racecourse projects are being supplied cooling energy through the existing district cooling plant with a total capacity of 45,000 RT, of which, 25,000 RT are connected to these projects.

In addition, Empower is also expected to invest more than AED1.6 billion (around $436 million) to build four district cooling plants and construct the pipeline network in the development to meet the demand for energy efficient district cooling services.

The agreement was signed by Empower CEO Ahmad Bin Shafar, and Meydan City Corporation CEO Issam Galadari.
