Sharjah, Tunisia to cooperate on cultural heritage preservation

The emirate of Sharjah plans to work on cultural heritage preservation with Tunisia, local reports have said.

Sharjah Institute for Heritage (SIH) Chairman Abdul Aziz Al Musallam and Tunisian Culture Minister Hayat Katat Al Garmazi recently met to discuss various aspects of bilateral cooperation.

They discussed tie-ups in the field of protecting tangible, intangible heritage, and heritage under water, said the local reports.

Al Musallam affirmed that the meeting was valuable and essential to protecting cultural heritage.

He noted that the Tunisian side has rich experiences in this regard, as well as the SIH with the unlimited support of Sharjah ruler Sheikh Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi.

Al Musallam also pointed out that the SIH’s efforts are constantly increasing, especially after the institute has become a center for building qualifications under the auspices of the UNESCO.

For her part, Al Garmazi highlighted the importance of joining forces with the SIH, which will reflect positively on the efforts to protect and preserve the heritage.

The Tunisian Culture Minister presented the strategic policy pursued by the ministry to protect the cultural heritage in Tunisia, underscoring its keenness to strengthen relations with international organisations, including the SIH, to embody the principle of cooperation in various fields of heritage.
