Iraqi delegation to visit Geneva, discuss country’s WTO accession

Tariffs on environmental goods are, on average, lower than those on other goods, but they remain relatively high in low-income countries.
  • The delegation is likely to reach an agreement with European trade ministers.
  • Iraq needs to pass laws and legislation on many topics, including the economy and customs, a trade ministry spokesman said.

Iraq is making efforts towards joining the World Trade Organization and its Minister of Trade will visit Geneva to discuss the issue.
A government delegation will visit Geneva next week to reach an agreement with European trade ministers and European countries in this regard, Muhammad Hanoun, the spokesman for the Ministry of Trade told the Iraqi News Agency (INA).
“Iraq needs to pass laws and legislation on many topics, including the economy, customs, and other required details and controls to support its position globally,” the spokesman said.
“We are looking forward to finalizing the file of Iraq’s joining the World Trade Organization soon. The joining process is complex and has great and many conditions,” he said.
