Job creation in Oman posts 129% jump in 2021

The employment performance indicators of Oman in the public and private sectors exceeded the 100% accomplishment rate to reach 128.6%, labor minister Mahad Said Ba’Owai said.

As many as 41504 Omani people received the employment opportunity, he added.

The minister was speaking at the annual press conference of the Labor Ministry in online mode, themed as “Appropriate Work Environment, Productive and Renewable Capabilities”.

The number of new employees in the private sector in 2021 stood at 49276 of which 42609 were contracted employees.

Also, 6667 received jobs through employment-linked training, the minister said.

The Job Security Program provided benefits to 10995 job seekers in 2021, he added.

The minister pointed out that employment-linked training programs and on-the-job training programs benefited 9859 in 2021.

Of the total 19097 jobs announced in the government sector, 12669 were provided through training and replacement of expatriates and 6428 to others after training and instruction programs, he added.

The minister said that 247 trainees passed out after completing a program called “Eitimad” (endorsement).

It aims at empowering private-sector workers and honing their leadership skills so that they could access high strata jobs.

In 2021, total revenues of the Ministry of Labor stood at RO 232.9 million ($605million) generated from fees of licenses and employment contracts, fines and other sources.
