Kuwait and China sign raft of agreements to bolster ties

Hangzhou, China – Kuwait and China have signed a raft of agreements across many sectors to bolster bilateral ties between the two nations.

The cooperation agreements spanning a range of sectors were signed in Hangzhou, China, presided over by Kuwait’s Crown Prince Sheikh Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah and Chinese President Xi Jinping.

In addition to the signing ceremonies, Crown Prince Sheikh Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah and President Xi Jinping held summit talks. The crown prince extended an official invitation to President Xi to visit Kuwait and conveyed greetings from the Amir Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah.

The leaders reflected on their countries’ historic relationship, spanning over half a century, and discussed avenues to further strengthen ties for the mutual prosperity of their nations.

They also deliberated on regional and international developments and expressed a mutual desire to solidify the strategic partnership between Kuwait and China.

A joint cooperation plan for 2024-28 was inked by Kuwait’s Foreign Affairs Minister Sheikh Salem Abdullah Al-Jaber Al-Sabah and his Chinese counterpart, Wang Yi.

An MoU on a low-carbon recycling green system was signed by Sheikh Salem Abdullah Al-Sabah and the National Development and Reform Commission Chairman, Zheng Shanjie.

An infrastructure-focused MoU was signed between Kuwait’s Ministry of Public Works and China’s National Development and Reform Commission, emphasizing water treatment stations.

An MoU on power systems and renewable energy was signed by Kuwait’s Minister of Electricity, Water, and Renewable Energy, Dr. Jassem Al-Ostad, and China’s national energy department, represented by Zheng.

An agreement on Mubarak Al-Kabeer Port was signed by Kuwait’s Deputy Prime Minister Dr. Saad Al-Barrak and China’s Minister of Transport, Li Xiaopeng.

An MoU on economic and free zones was signed by the Foreign Minister on behalf of the Kuwait Direct Investment Promotion Authority (KDIPA) and Chinese Minister of Trade, Wang Wentao.

An MoU on housing development was signed between the Public Authority for Housing Welfare and China’s ministry of trade, represented by Minister Wang.

In a separate meeting, the Crown Prince received top executives from Huawei, including Chairman of the Supervisor Board, Guo Ping, Chairman for the Middle East and Central Asia, Chang Yi, and President for the Northern Gulf region.

The executives briefed the Crown Prince on Huawei’s achievements and projects in Kuwait and their commitment to delivering top-tier IT and communication services in the country.

As a token of appreciation and goodwill, the Huawei team presented a painting to the crown prince.

The meetings and signings underscore the growing importance of the Kuwait-China relationship and their shared vision for a prosperous future.
