Qatar Chamber and International Labour Organization look to boost ties

Doha, Qatar–The Qatar Chamber (QC) and the International Labor Organization (ILO) discussed bilateral cooperation relations in the fields of labor, research, training, and ways to achieve the common interest of business owners and workers.

This came during the meeting of Acting General Manager of the Qatar Chamber Ali Bu Sherbak Al Mansori with Senior Specialist in Employers’ Activities at the Regional Office for Arab States at the ILO Jose Manuel Medina Checa with the presence of Director of the Legal Affairs Department at the QC Abdul Aziz Al Kuwari.

During the meeting, the QC received an invitation to participate in activities organized or supported by the ILO in 2024.

Ali Bu Sherbak Al Mansori expressed the Chamber’s preparedness to collaborate with the ILO, praising its significant role in labour-related matters. He highlighted several areas of potential cooperation between the Chamber and the ILO.

He emphasized the Chamber’s commitment to raising awareness about labour issues and ensuring that Qatari companies comply with state-mandated labour reforms while also advocating for the interests of employers.

In turn, Jose Manuel Medina Checa reiterated the ILO’s readiness to cooperate with the QC, particularly in areas such as labour, SMEs, research, studies, and legal matters.

He further emphasized the crucial role of the Qatari private sector in implementing recent labour reforms in the country.
