Saudi ports see 1.83% increase in cargo handling

    Saudi ports saw an increase in the total number of handled cargo during June 2021, said local reports on Friday, July 16.

    Ports in the kingdom work under the purview of the Saudi Ports Authority, which is also known as MAWANI.

    The ports handled more than 609,000 containers which is an increase of 1.83%, said the local reports. The total number of transshipments reached 242,000 containers, which is reportedly an increase of 12.10%.

    The total amount of handled goods reached 23 million tons, said the reports.

    According to the statistical index issued by MAWANI, Saudi Arabia’s ports also achieved an increase in the total number of passengers. The number saw a growth of 199%, with 44,000 passengers.

    The number of imported vehicles reached 64,000, an increase of 70%. The imported livestock reached 271,000, while the total foodstuffs reached more than 2 million tons.

    This increase is reportedly a part of the ongoing development process that MAWANI is working on to raise the level of operational and logistical performance, infrastructure and absorptive capacities in this sector.
