Sharjah Police returns around AED500m to owners in 2021

  • Colonel Youssef Obaid bin Harmoul, Director of the SP’s Comprehensive Police Stations Department, said this happened due to the Al Solh Khair initiative
  • It resulted in 12,798 reconciliations out of 27,408 criminal reports in 2021, which included 8,523 financial reports, and the return of AED500m

The Sharjah Police (SP) returned almost AED500 million ($136.15 million) to their owners without the need to refer these cases to the courts, thanks to a new initiative, official sources have said.

Colonel Youssef Obaid bin Harmoul, Director of the SP’s Comprehensive Police Stations Department, said the Al Solh Khair initiative — whose name translates to Reconciliation is Good — resulted in 12,798 reconciliations out of 27,408 criminal reports in 2021, which included 8,523 financial reports.

It was because of this initiative that around AED500 million was returned to rightful owners, said the official sources.

The initiative is said to have been implemented to achieve the objectives of the SP in line with the strategic objective of the UAE’s Ministry of Interior aimed at enhancing customer satisfaction with the services provided.

Harmoul said that the initiative, now in its 11th year, has achieved its objectives of protecting the rights of institutions and individuals, and enabling them to recover their rights amicably, without the need to refer financial cases to the courts.

He added that the initiative contributes to strengthening social cohesion, and maintaining positive social relations between the conflicting parties before referring them to the public prosecution.

A number of beneficiaries of the initiative are said to have expressed their happiness as they were able to recover their money in a friendly manner, without resorting to courts.
