Dubai, UAE — UAE defense and advanced technology group EDGE has agreed to acquire a 100 percent stake in Brazilian aerospace and engineering company AKAER, expanding its international engineering footprint and strengthening capabilities in unmanned systems and advanced aerospace technologies.
The transaction, which remains subject to customary closing conditions and regulatory approvals, will provide EDGE with an established engineering base in Brazil and a multidisciplinary team supporting the full product lifecycle, from conceptual design to industrialization.
EDGE said the acquisition would accelerate industrialization timelines for key unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) programs while expanding its capabilities in optronics, electro-optic and infrared systems, and space-related technologies.
AKAER already works with EDGE on the development and industrialization of unmanned systems, providing what the UAE company described as a strong foundation for deeper integration.
“AKAER brings real engineering depth to EDGE,” Managing Director and Chief Executive Hamad Al Marar said.
“This is a highly specialized team with three decades of experience delivering complex aerospace programs, and that expertise strengthens what we can offer across the Group.”
Founded in 1992 and headquartered in São José dos Campos, AKAER has delivered more than 10 million engineering hours across military and commercial aerospace programs.
Its portfolio includes work on Saab’s Gripen NG fighter jet, Turkish Aerospace’s Hürjet trainer aircraft, Embraer’s Super Tucano, ERJ-E1, ERJ-E2, Legacy 450/500 and KC-390 programs, as well as engineering support for Boeing’s 747-8, Calidus’s B-250 aircraft and the Brazilian Air Force’s P-3 Orion fleet.
EDGE said AKAER would continue operating from Brazil under local governance, while the acquisition supports the group’s strategy to expand internationally and build engineering capabilities closer to key markets and partners.
