Egypt pledges support to Lebanon after Sisi-Mikati meeting

Egypt has pledged support to Lebanon “at all levels” and stressed that it needs “political accord” to reawaken from the setbacks it has been experiencing and “for it to return to the beacon of the Arabs”.

Local media reports said that during his meeting with the visiting Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati, Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi said that “he gave directions to the relevant ministries to take care of all Lebanon’s demands and meet them according to the available capabilities”.

The reports, quoting an Egyptian presidency statement, “President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi affirmed pride in the depth of the close relations between Egypt and Lebanon at the official and popular levels, and Egypt’s keenness on the safety, security and stability of Lebanon, achieving Lebanese national interests and sparing Lebanon from the dangers of conflicts in the region, within the framework of Egyptian concern.”

The permanent solution to all that is in the interest of Lebanon, in a way that helps preserve the strength and capacity of the Lebanese state, in addition to safeguarding the capabilities of the brotherly Lebanese people and the unity of their national fabric., the reports said.

For his part, Mikati praised “Egypt’s tireless and sincere efforts to mobilize international support for Lebanon at various levels in light of the continuing difficult challenges facing the Lebanese people, especially at the political and economic level”.

Mikati spoke about “Lebanon’s pride in the strong historical relations linking the two brotherly countries” and praised “the current “Egyptian experience based on the priority of economic and development success, which is a model for the countries of the region”.

Mikati and Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly also held bilateral talks which were followed by Mikati presenting several special requests in the field of energy and electrical interconnection and providing support in the field of natural gas to urgently generate electric power for the Lebanese people, the reports said.

Madbouly, the reports, said, “God willing, these requests will be responded to as soon as possible, and we discussed the technical aspects that accelerate the pace in this field.”And he added, “We also agree, God willing, that the joint ministerial committee will be held between the two countries, and God willing, it will be at the earliest opportunity in Lebanon. I am honored to visit our Lebanese brothers in the next stage.”
